You already know the sales pitch — Torrevieja gets close to 3,000 hours of sun a year and the electricity bill keeps climbing. What the phone-sales solar companies don't tell you is the other half of the job: an unregistered solar installation earns no surplus compensation, qualifies for no rebates, and becomes a problem when you sell the property. We work the other way round: measure your real consumption first, size the system honestly, then legalise everything until the compensation actually shows up on your bill.

Honest sizing. For a typical Costa Blanca home (3–6 kW contracted), the right system is usually 3–5 kWp — 6 to 10 panels. More only makes sense with a battery, an EV charger or heavy daytime loads (pool pump, aerothermal heating). South-facing is ideal; east-west loses 10–15% but spreads production across the day, which often works out better under capped compensation.

The electrical side, done properly. We're a registered Spanish low-voltage installer — the same company that upgrades your consumer unit or issues your boletín. That means DC and AC protection to ITC-BT-40, the consumer unit adapted where needed, mounting rated for coastal wind and salt air, and the whole installation signed off and filed by the people who actually did the work — not subcontracted to someone who never sets foot on your roof.

Surplus compensation. Under Spain's simplified scheme (RD 244/2019), energy you export is credited against your bill every month. Activating it means legalising the installation, obtaining the self-consumption code (CAU) from i-DE and signing the annex with your electricity supplier. We handle all of it, and we don't consider the job finished until you can see the credit on your bill.

Batteries: sometimes yes, sometimes no. If the house is occupied in the evenings, a battery captures production the compensation scheme pays poorly for. For a summer-use holiday home, exporting and compensating usually beats storing. We run the numbers on your actual consumption curve and give you the payback period of each option — even when the answer is "not yet".

Electric cars. Panels plus an EV charger is one of the best-value combinations on the Costa Blanca: the car charges during sun hours on your own energy. We install the charging point on its own dedicated line and protection, and integrate it with the inverter so it prioritises solar surplus.

Rebates and grants. Most town halls in the area offer several years of IBI (property tax) rebate and a discount on the ICIO works tax for solar installations. Percentages and duration depend on each municipality's by-laws and change over time, so we confirm what's current for your town before quoting and prepare the application paperwork — all in Spanish on your behalf, which matters if you're a non-resident owner. Same for national tax deductions whenever they're in force.

FAQ — Solar panels

  • Q.01Who handles the legalisation and paperwork?
    We do, end to end: CIE / technical file, self-consumption registration with the Generalitat Valenciana, the CAU code with i-DE and the compensation annex with your electricity supplier. We don't call the job finished until the credit shows up on your bill — and we handle it all in Spanish on your behalf if you're not resident.
  • Q.02How does surplus compensation appear on my bill?
    Each month, the energy you export is valued at the rate agreed with your supplier and credited against the energy term of your bill (simplified scheme, RD 244/2019). The credit can't exceed the cost of the energy you consumed that month — which is why oversizing without a battery rarely pays.
  • Q.03What rebates are available around Torrevieja?
    Most town halls in the area offer an IBI (property tax) rebate for several years plus a discount on the ICIO works tax when you install solar.     Roof work is 1–2 days for a typical residential system. Before that, a responsible declaration at the town hall; afterwards, legalisation and compensation activation, which run on i-DE and supplier timescales (weeks, not days). You get the full timeline with the quote.
  • Q.06Is my roof suitable? And what happens in a power cut?
    Flat or pitched both work with the right mounting — what matters is shading and usable area, which we check on the visit. A grid-tied system shuts down in a power cut for safety (anti-islanding); only a battery with backup function keeps essential circuits running.
  • Q.07Can I charge my electric car from the panels?
    Yes — one of the highest-value combos. We fit the charging point on its own line and protection and integrate it with the inverter to prioritise solar surplus. If your contracted power falls short, we file the upgrade with i-DE.
